Trout nets are supposed to be able to help protect the trouts fragile scales and slime coat. Nylon and some other materials are abrasive and rough on them. The cotton netting on a trout net should be wetted well before it touches a trout.
None of this matters if you keep the fish to eat or whatever, but makes a succesful release a long shot.
Please don't take me as fussing, I just want to make sure those that plan on releasing a trout know why it's better to use a trout net. Better yet to remove the hook while the fish is still in the water. Easier said than done though.
