Hey guys, I got a few more questions...

First, Is there a certain type jig collar that I need to look for, or best to use?

On the thread, Does it have to be a certain kind of thread, or will any kind work?

And one more thing, On the cement...Does it have to be a certain kind, or will any clear cement work?

It went pretty good. Kinda one of those types you never now for sure until you get another call....haha.

Welp guys, Luckily between both local bait shops here in town, I was able to scrounge up my supplies. I got a "basic fly-tie kit" which has my scissors, bobbin, big set of pliers, tiny set of pliers, whip finisher(?), cut lance, dubbing twister(?), and a bodkin. Then the other bait shop happened to have a vise. So I went at it as soon as I got home and I got one tied. I havent got the cement yet or anything to finish that part, but i did get it tied. Definetly gotta get some new thread too cuz all I had at the moment was a spool of cheap stuff and it broke on me about 3 times...lol. But anyway, Heres a pic of my first tied jig...



I realize you cant tell much about it(camera sucks, plus bad choice of background), but its there. Gonna try to get some better thread and cement and I should be ready to roll.

Good looking fly for your first time. Practice, Practice, Practice. Now, what makes all of this fun,,,,,,,,is when you see that bobber go down and there is a six pound smalllie on the other end.

good looking fly bubba. i am getting ready to build a couple F-N-F rods in a few days and then its off to the bench to tie some fly's. i will post some pic's when i get done. What size jig head did you use? From what I have been reading you need to use a 1/32 or 1/16 oz.

Ebay usually has a vice pretty cheap. Its the one I started on. I got renzetti now. But you can get a vice there and a bobbin is like 5bucks for a cheap one. Thats all you really need to do jigs and stuff.

1/16th is all ever used when under a bobber. If I tightlined, I would go a little heavier.

The size I used in that pic was 1/8th, but I went to Bass Pro tonight and got some different shaped 1/16th jig heads. I'm hoping to get my practice in this weekend.

bubba , if you are like me and don't pour your own Jig's . i found a place that sells the F-N-F jigs, 1/16 and 1/32 for $2.99 per 10. if anyone can find the cheeper, please let us know

I just got a pack of these BPS "minnow head" 1/16th jig heads. They were 2.39 for 15. I just cut the "barb" off the collar. I left just a little tab sticking up still so it would still leave a little taper to the collar to keep the hair from sliding off.

Where do you get yours from snoot?
